The amber of Saint Dominique is mined from the region of Caribbean and particularly from the Dominican Republic. It is an organic coalition, like the Baltic one, and it derives from a bush called Araucaria. This bush been buried under the ground for 30.000.000 years, created this amber - a work of art of colours. Its colour varies from blue, which is the rare one, to reddish, green, and all shades of brown and black.

The properties of Dominican Republic’s amber are the same as the Baltic amber. Saint Dominique’s amber has inclusions from coleopterons, which are different, and in better condition than those of the Baltic amber. It also includes water drops, air bubbles and other various plants and trees that can prove its tropical origin. Its mining differs from that of Baltic amber because it becomes with the manufacturing of mines and tunnel in the mountains. Many of the mining tunnels that sometimes were opened up with the hands are very long and some of them can reach the sea level.

Due to the small quantities and the mining difficulties, the Saint Dominique’s amber is more infrequent than the Baltic one.
